Made with natural dyes and hand-spun wool as a prototype the rug is a faithful replica of a late 15th cent rug in the national collection of the Vakiflar Carpet Museum, Istanbul. The quality of the rug is finer and more densely knotted than the original museum piece from which is taken. The black colour has been etched in relief as if aged by oxidisation.
